Independent
There is certainly "freedom" as a connotation of the word INDEPENDENT, though quite often, living the life of a true "indie" (whether a musical artist, poet, writer or other creative) involves some level of sacrifice. It means that you cannot expect for "it" (whatever "it" is) to be handed to you... you have to get up off your duff & go DO something. My experience has been that the more independent I allow my thoughts to be, the better off my art is... unshackle myself from the chains that society (particularly in today's environment of "politically correct") tries to lay 'round your shoulders. That means I must be prepared (mentally, at least) to ignore the protests of those who want to (& often do) say "you can't do things that way"... to stand on my own two feet & do (basically) whatever it is that I am urged by my muse to do. Living any other way is futile... GO indie - TODAY |
